"I still have a dream: I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed" – MLK’s MountainTop speech at the civil rights march on Washington, August 28, 1963
In honor of Martin Luther King Jr., the 10th annual MountainTop Film Festival will once again offer a diverse program of documentary and dramatic films, addressing social and environmental issues from around the world.
The festival takes place January 18-24, 2013 at the Big Picture Theater in Waitsfield.
The festival program is comprised of 13 films from Sweden, Kenya, China, Egypt and the US and strives to use film to tell human stories that have the power to move and educate. The MountainTop Film Festival offers an educational outreach program to area high schools and makes free daytime screenings available for interested students and teachers. Students with a valid ID get to attend all films at the festival for free.
The festival is attended by the wider Vermont community and beyond. People are known to travel from all parts of the state as well as New Hampshire and upstate New York for some of the festival films and events. The festival has drawn over 1500-2000 visitors several years in a row.
The festival is now part of the non-profit effort of The Bigger Picture Community Fund which is a 501c3. The festival is made possible with the help and support of sponsorships and donations.
